Standby Services is a Wollongong air conditioning and refrigeration business founded by Adam Magick and run by a team of qualified tradesmen. Here's who we are and how we work.
Where Standby comes from
Standby Services goes back more than two decades, to Adam Magick and a start in commercial refrigeration in 2001. He spent fourteen years in hospitality, working pubs, clubs, cafes, service stations and stadiums across Australia, on everything from under-bench fridges to glycol systems and bulk cool room and freezer storage. From there he moved into commercial air conditioning, running single splits through to VRV and water-cooled systems for high-rise apartments, universities, schools and cafes.
He founded Standby in 2017, surrounded by tradespeople with the same depth on the tools. The business now covers commercial refrigeration, high-end residential cool rooms and wine cellars, air conditioning installs and shop fitouts, supplementary and VRV systems, data centres, breweries, glycol beer systems and residential air conditioning, all across Sydney and Wollongong. What holds that range together is the hospitality refrigeration grounding it was built on: keeping stock cold and safe when a few degrees of drift costs a venue real money.
A qualified team, backed by real credentials
Every tradesman on the tools holds a Certificate 3 trade qualification, a genuine four-year apprenticeship standard, and a dedicated maintenance technician runs scheduled servicing and after-hours breakdown calls, so a cool room going down at midnight doesn't go unanswered.
Standby is an ARC member with a refrigerant purchasing licence, an accredited NSW Government rebate installer and carries $20 million in public liability insurance. Every job gets a Safe Work Method Statement and a site induction before anyone picks up a tool.
Based in Wollongong, working across NSW
Standby Services is based in Wollongong and services the Illawarra, from Shellharbour to Kiama and the suburbs in between. Commercial work extends into Sydney metro, including a cluster of Marrickville breweries and several long-term data centre contracts. Wollongong is home, and it's where we're putting the most work in.
