Air Conditioning Service

Get your aircon serviced
before the first hot week.

We service split systems and ducted air conditioning across Wollongong, the Illawarra and Sydney. A licensed tech cleans it and checks the gas and electrics, then tells you straight how it is holding up.

What an air conditioning service is for

An aircon service is routine maintenance on a system that still works. Dust clogs the filters and coils, the drain slowly silts up and salt air eats at the outdoor unit. None of it shows until the system has to work hard. A service puts all of that right while the weather is still mild, so the system goes into summer running the way it did when it was new.

If yours has already stopped cooling or keeps tripping the switchboard, you need our air conditioning repair page instead. We clean the system on a repair visit too if it needs it.

What we check on every service

The same list for a single split system or a whole ducted house, done by a Certificate 3 qualified technician.

  • Filters washed or replaced and the return air grille cleaned on ducted systems
  • Indoor coil and fan cleaned, fins checked for damage and mould
  • Condensate drain and tray flushed so water leaves the house rather than coming through the ceiling
  • Outdoor unit coil cleaned and checked for salt corrosion, leaves and blocked airflow
  • Refrigerant pressures and temperatures read on gauges, which is where a slow leak shows up
  • Electrical connections, capacitor and isolator checked for heat damage and wear
  • Controller, zones and thermostat tested, then a full run in cooling and heating
  • A short report on what we found, what we fixed and anything worth watching

Split system and ducted servicing

Split system service

Most of the work happens at the wall unit: filters, the coil behind them, the fan barrel and the drain. Wall-hung split systems in bedrooms tend to collect the most dust. A dirty fan barrel is a common cause of the musty smell some systems give off when they start.

Ducted air conditioning service

The filter sits in the return air grille and the indoor unit sits in the roof, so a ducted system service covers the roof space as well: the unit, the drain line, the duct connections and the zone motors that decide which rooms get air. When one of those parts has already failed, that is a ducted air conditioning repair.

Signs your air conditioner is due for a service

Weak airflow, a musty smell when it starts, water spotting under the indoor unit or a system that takes longer to cool the room than it used to all point to one that needs cleaning. So does a power bill that climbs while you use the system about as much as last year.

Filters are the part you can look after yourself between visits. Our guide to cleaning an air conditioner filter takes about ten minutes. If the system is past ten years old and the service turns up worn parts, read how long air conditioners last before you spend much on it.

Why spring is the time to book

Our calendar fills from the first hot week in October through to Christmas, when every installer is also busy with new systems. A system serviced in spring goes into summer clean. Anything the tech finds gets fixed on your timeline rather than during a heatwave.

When a service shows a system is on its way out, we say so and price both options. Our air conditioner replacement page covers what happens next. The NSW air conditioning rebate page covers the government discount on replacing an old system.

We look after what we install

Every system we install comes with its first year of maintenance included, two visits from the same crew that fitted it. After that we keep servicing it at a set price per visit, so you know the cost before we arrive.

Running a pub, club or restaurant? Commercial systems and cool rooms sit on our commercial maintenance and breakdown plans instead.

Air conditioning service questions

How often should an air conditioner be serviced?

Once a year suits most homes, ideally in spring before the first hot week. Book twice a year if the system heats and cools most days, if anyone in the house has asthma or allergies or if you live close enough to the beach for salt to settle on the outdoor unit.

How much does an air conditioning service cost?

The price comes down to the type of system, how many indoor units it has, how easy they are to reach and how long it has gone since the last clean. A split system on a ground floor wall is a quicker job than a ducted system with a return air grille in a tight roof space. We tell you the price for the visit when you book. If the service turns up a fault, we quote the repair before doing any of it.

Is an aircon service worth it?

Yes, for most systems more than a few years old. A clean system moves more air for the same power, so it costs less to run. A service also catches worn parts and small leaks before they turn into a breakdown in January. The service record helps too if you ever need to make a warranty claim.

What is the difference between a service and a repair?

A service is routine maintenance on a system that still works. A repair fixes one that has stopped cooling or started leaking. If your system has already failed, book a repair instead. We clean it on the same visit if it needs it.

Do you service air conditioners you did not install?

Yes. We service split and ducted systems from all the major brands, whoever installed them. On a system we have never seen we take a little longer on the first visit to note its model, gas type and condition, so the next service starts from a record.

Can I clean my air conditioner myself?

You can and should clean the filters yourself every few months. The coils, drain, refrigerant and electrical checks need a licensed technician, because they mean opening the unit and connecting gauges to the refrigerant circuit.
